About Kusaya
Handcrafted in Bolivia. Made for the way you want to live.
Kusaya was born in Sucre, Bolivia — where Jalq'a artisans have been shaping natural materials for generations. We build a bridge between that ancient tradition and the spaces people want to come home to.
WHO WE ARE
We are not a factory. We are not a marketplace. Kusaya is a small brand built around a simple belief: that handmade objects made with skill and intention belong in modern homes — and that the people who make them deserve to be known, valued, and fairly compensated.
Every Kusaya piece is made by hand in Bolivia using natural materials: wicker, rattan, wood, linen, alpaca wool, and felt. Each one takes time. Each one is unique.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe that the objects in your home should have a story.
We believe that craftsmanship should not disappear from the world.
We believe that beauty and ethics are not opposites.
We believe that slow, intentional making produces things worth keeping.
OUR ORIGIN
Kusaya arose from a specific reality: many artisanal techniques, despite their extraordinary cultural richness, have not been able to become a stable source of income for the people who practice them. Younger generations are leaving traditional crafts behind because the economics don't work.
We started Kusaya to change that — not through charity, but through design. By presenting Bolivian craftsmanship in a way that connects with international markets, we create real, sustainable demand for the work of real people.
OUR COMMITMENT
We pay fair wages above local market rates.
We work without production quotas — each artisan sets their own pace.
We are transparent about where our products come from and who makes them.
We reinvest in the artisan community with every sale.
THE JALQ'A CONNECTION
Our work is deeply inspired by the Jalq'a culture — one of the most sophisticated textile traditions in the Andean world. We do not replicate their work. We reinterpret it, with respect and intention, so that it finds a place in contemporary spaces without losing its cultural meaning.
